Shakes in the City: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s free summer series, Shakes in the City, returns this season with a new take on A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This pop-up production brings Shakespeare’s dreamiest romantic comedy into neighborhood parks across Chicago from July 19-August 17, 2025.

What to expect

• 45-minute outdoor performances blending theatre, dance, and music
• It’s the second annual iteration of Shakes in the City, designed to enliven public green spaces in our north, south, and west side neighborhoods
• Free access: No tickets required—just bring a blanket, a picnic, and a sense of wonder
• Neighborhood rotation: Whether you’re in Lincoln Square, Little Village, Bronzeville, or beyond, there’s a staging near you
