Second Fridays Pilsen gallery nights: A 2025 update
Second Fridays in Pilsen are going strong! Every second Friday of the month, the Chicago Arts District along South Halsted opens its doors from 6-10 p.m., inviting visitors to explore diverse galleries and studios in amazing buildings.
What to expect
The event spans from 1711-2005 S Halsted, with the Information Center at 2003 S Halsted. Here, you can pick up maps and plan your evening. The galleries showcase a wide range of styles, from traditional paintings and sculptures to avant-garde installations and multimedia. Many artists are present to discuss their creations, too.
If you get hungry, I strongly suggest Kristoffer’s Cafe, right at 18th and Halsted. The tres leches cake is addictive, and their Mexican and Mayan tamales are amazing too. UIC is also nearby, so there are plenty of other options just a bit north.
Tips for visitors
- Start your evening at the Information Center at 2003 S Halsted to pick up a map and get recommendations.
- Wear comfortable shoes, as you’ll be walking between venues.
- Many galleries offer complimentary refreshments (generally cheap wine…), but consider supporting local businesses by dining nearby.
- Photography is generally welcomed, but always ask for permission before taking photos of artworks or artists.
- Engage with the artists and ask questions—it’s a great way to deepen your appreciation of their work.
Getting there
Pilsen is accessible via the CTA Pink Line (18th Street Station) and several bus routes. Street parking is available but can be limited during events, so public transportation is recommended.
