Notable Chicago dog parks
Wiggly Field (Noethling Playlot Park)
Located at 2645 N Sheffield in Lincoln Park, Wiggly Field is Chicago’s first official dog park, established in 1997. This half-acre park has a fully fenced area with pea gravel and sand surfaces, so it’s comfortable for dogs to play. There are drinking fountains and benches for pet owners.
Montrose Dog Beach
Situated where Wilson Avenue meets Lake Michigan, Montrose Dog Beach offers a spacious, off-leash area for dogs to enjoy the water and sand. Open daily from 6 AM-11 PM, it’s a popular spot for dog owners seeking a beach experience within the city.
Jackson Bark
An innovative reuse of four abandoned tennis courts in Jackson Park, Jackson Bark has become a vibrant spot. There’s agility equipment and ample space for dogs to play. However, it’s worth noting that future plans for park redevelopment may impact this space.
Puptown Dog Park
Located in Margate Park at the northeast corner of Lawrence and N Marine Dr, Puptown Dog Park is a fully fenced area with concrete and gravel surfaces. It features a pedal-activated water sprinkler, benches, and an elevated area for seating. Maintained by volunteers, it’s a clean and friendly spot.
Horner Park Dog Park
Found at 2741 W Montrose Ave, Horner Park Dog Park is known for its water play area, where dogs can cool off in the summer. The park also has benches and a vibrant community atmosphere.
Wentwoof Park
In 2023, the Southwest Side welcomed its first dog park, Wentwoof Park, located at 57th Street and Narragansett Avenue. It addresses the previous lack of dog-friendly spaces in the area and reflects ongoing efforts to provide equitable amenities across the city.
