Chicago Museum Week showcases our cultural gems
If you’ve not yet seen the latest exhibits at Chicago’s museums, or have been waiting to purchase a yearly membership, there’s a new Chicago Museum Week to save you a bit of dough.
Debuting October 1-7, with 12 Chicago institutions adding value and special performances to their schedules, there’s no excuse not to check out a couple spots. Check out the website (linked above) to get full details and I’ve linked maps below so you can get there fast. Don’t forget Metra, there’s no need to fight the highways!
Adler Planetarium: Free admittance Oct 5, 6 and 7 for IL residents, discounts and special activities all week long.
Art Institute: Make art, or get a wee discount on your admission or membership. I like our tips better.
Chicago History Museum: Discounts and ‘flash’ tours.
The DuSable Museum of African American History: This often-overlooked gem has guided tours and 2-for-1 admission. Make a detour to Hyde Park, it’s worth it.
Field Museum: Learn about lichens, or Sue, or Vikings. Discounts typical.
Lincoln Park Zoo: Fall Fest highlights a 60-foot burlap sack slide, which could be fun or end with an ouch. Live entertainment, rides (doesn’t really specify if kid- or adult-friendly).
MCA Chicago: Lots of events, performances and exhibits, and MCA Prime Time on Oct 2 sounds fabulous.
Museum of Science and Industry: A new Google-sponsored exhibit on robots seems like geeky fun!
National Museum of Mexican Art: Another hidden gem with Day of the Dead exhibits and so much more. Free.
The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture: Gorgeous exhibitions going on now! Always free, so no excuses.
The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum: Butterflies, Peanuts (the cartoon) and did I mention butterflies? It’s a terribly cool spot. Discounts.
Shedd Aquarium: Discounts, frogs, and touch a stingray (weather permitting)!
