SCRABBLE for a cause: The 10th annual SCRABBLE for Literacy Challenge
I’ve a few SCRABBLE-happy friends, and I’ve been known to indulge in Words With Friends games here and there (my secret: I don’t really care what the outcome is, I like the challenge). But so far I haven’t made it to a real SCRABBLE tournament. The Literacy Volunteers of Illinois‘ 10th annual “It’s Your Word Against Theirs,” SCRABBLE for Literacy Challenge on Saturday, October 19 might change that.
Supporting the fight against low literacy in Illinois, this fun charity event will feature awards, prizes and refreshments as well as a silent auction featuring donations from local businesses.
“Low literacy is an issue that affects every aspect of our community though it is often one of the least visible,” says Dorothy Miaso, Executive Director of Literacy Volunteers of Illinois. “The SCRABBLE Tournament is designed to raise the visibility of the issue as well as to raise funds to support our work with families and individuals in need.”
So come on out: Tickets are $25 for adults, $10 for teens and children under 12 are admitted for free.
