Savvy Seconds and 1sts
One of Ravenswood Manor’s undiscovered stores is Savvy Seconds.
On Lawrence Avenue between Rockwell and California, this store is a pleasant surprise on a street not known for clothing retailers. While not as trendy as the consignment shops of Wicker Park, the prices are also no where near as expensive. I just bought a top I can wear to work for under $10. Also, the clothing is aimed towards a younger crowd than what can be found in the second-hand stores Lincoln Square.
The owner is a pleasant woman who happily explains how she has arranged clothing; summer clothing up front, winter clothes towards the back, etc. She has also taken a unique method of sorting clothes in those categories‚ color first, rather size. Don’t get me wrong, all the hangers are clearly labeled by size, so it is easy to know if something is the correct size before you even take it off the rack.
So if you are in Lincoln Square, Ravenswood Manor, Albany Park, or Andersonville, this shop is worth a quick pop in to see if you can find something you like.
If you interested in selling clothing, the store owner buys on Tuesdays and Friday. (I suggest calling first to confirm.) If you want cash, she will buy for 30% of what she thinks she can sell it for. If you want store credit, it is 50%.
